Hot & Cold Therapy Bags
Quattro Designs Hot & Cold Therapy Bags are filled with 100% field corn – commonly referred to as “deer” or “feed” corn.
Our bags are a two-part system – we have filled the inner muslin bag with quality hand-screened deer corn and channeled it to keep an even temperature while either hot or cold.
The outer bag is made of 100% prewashed cotton and is ready to go.
We recommend that if your cover has a metallic finish to it that you do NOT microwave it as it might spark!
Just pop your muslin therapy bag into the microwave wrapped in a clean hand towel, heat and place in its pillowcase for a wonderful warming experience.
Conversely, keep your muslin bag in your freezer in a plastic bag and take it out when needed.
Once your bag has reached the desired temperature – pop the inner muslin bag into the outer cotton cover and you are good to go.
Having the outer cover makes it easier to keep your bag fresh and clean.
Keep an extra cover on hand, in case you need a fresh one!
If you are reheating a bag that has not completely cooled – use 30-second intervals
It is possible to overheat and burn the corn. It is also possible to heat the cover too much and burn your skin.
Please be careful!
Place your bag in your freezer for a few hours and then place on the affected area.
Enjoy a gentler cold that is not as harsh as ice cubes and without the mess of melting ice!
Placing your muslin bag in a plastic bag will help it from becoming soiled and picking up freezer odors!
Heat relaxes muscles, relieves stiff joints and increases circulation and flexibility.
Why MOIST heat? Moist heat will penetrate more deeply into muscles, joints and soft tissues for better pain relief.
Moist heat is one of the most effective alternatives to pain medication.
The general rule of thumb is to use ice when you need to reduce swelling and ease pain.
Applying ice will help reduce the inflammation from injuries, surgeries, sprains or strains.
Use a cold pack for no more than 10 to 20 minutes at a time. It is important to allow your skin to return to normal temperature in between sessions.
Heat and cold are the two most common non-invasive and non-addictive therapies.
Heat and cold can be used alternatively and works by stimulating your body’s own healing force.
Corn is a larger grain than rice, wheat or flax and because of its size; it holds the heat longer than other sources.
It also has a higher naturally occurring moisture level within the corn.
Whole corn, which is grown for livestock, is commonly known as “deer” or “field” corn, and is grown from DENT corn.
Not to be confused with popcorn which is grown from FLINT corn and has a hard outer shell that causes pressure to build up inside when heated and “explode.”
Before our therapy bags are ready to go to our customers – we have microwaved the bags to ensure product quality.
Fresh corn initially will have high moisture content so you might find the first few sessions in the microwave it appears to give off excess moisture – this is perfectly normal.
One thing to remember is to resist the urge to heat it up for too long – this will eventually cause the corn to dry out and scorch – once you smell that “burnt” smell – you’ve overdone it.
A therapy bag made of deer corn that has been reheated properly can last several years!
